Scholarship Guidelines
1a. Applicants for the $100 scholarship to local camps such as the Elizabethtown College Music Camp
must be in or completed seventh grade at the time of the audition.
1b. Applicants for the McHose and Humphreville scholarships must be a junior or a senior in high school
and may or may not be a member of the Lancaster County Youth Symphony, Lancaster County Wind
Ensemble, or the Workshop for Young Performing Artists.
2. Former scholarship winners may apply again but first consideration will be given to applicants who have
not previously won a scholarship from the Musical Art Society.
3a. Students will be evaluated on the following criteria:
*Musical expression and technique
*Preparation and Performance of his/her music
3b. If applicants for the McHose or the Humphreville scholarship do not belong to the above
mentioned organizations, a written recommendation from the applicant’s private music
teacher or a school music teacher is required.
4. Each applicant is expected to perform in his/her own special field of music before a panel of Musical Art
Society members and professional musicians and teachers.
5. Auditions will include the following items:
*One solo of the applicant’s choice
*One musical selection provided by the judges to be sight-read
*Scales to be selected from the list used by Junior Orchestra and Youth Symphony Audition appropriate to the applicant's age.
